Author’s note

Completed in 2008 as this writer’s only way to respond to the traumatic events of late 2001 that seems so much more relevant in 2025.

I watched in horror as our leadership, ever watchful not for the good of their constituents, but for power and the all mighty dollar, quietly and systematically sold us out by secretly stripping away one then another of the rights of the people of our great country.

Few said a word when people living in the United States were spirited away to Guantanamo as enemy combatants, stripped of their rights, tortured then left to rot for years in that hell hole without a lawyer or due process.

Problem is if one person is left without the law to protect them, even if they truly are the enemy, then we all are vulnerable to the whims of small minded people in power.
Am I mad, you’re damn right I’m mad. What happened to the Constitution and Bill of Rights that I grew up to revere? Who will be there to protect me when someone decides I am their enemy combatant?

It seems that we are moving into dark times once again, but what would happen if someone said, “no”. What if an officer of the law actually fulfilled his or her sworn duty to serve and protect all of the people in their community rather than only the business and power elite.

The following story is what could happen if a few people got together and said “no” to the tyranny of the ruling class and did so without guns or bullets, but simply by flooding the light of day on the darkness of a shadow consciousness very much alive in certain factions of our culture.
