“Hero” and “Your God”

The following are two poems from my newest unpublished book of poetry.

Hero
(Dec-03)

Everyone likes what the hero does
But no one likes the hero.
Everyone likes who the hero was
But no one wants him to dinner.

Your God (6-04)

You wear your god on your sleeve
like some old drunken whore in hot pants
unwilling to admit
that few are interested anymore.
You push religion like the old days
when drugs was your God
and fast women your game.
You hide behind your God
as you at one time hid behind other things
unwilling to reveal yourself
unable to pretend any longer
that you are truly alone
and that intimacy is also a God
and maybe what you really seek.
